Four other children were injured.
The bus, en route with children to school, had suffered an accident and was behind schedule. Two drivers were sent from the high school to bring it in. Another bus crossed ahead of the train but this one, following closely behind in a dense fog, was struck squarely and hurled into a block signal. Enclosed in the car, the children were unable to escape and their bodies were hurled in all directions.
