9 HORSES BURNED

Fierce Forest Fire Destroys property Near Livermore.

Livermore, September 13. - In a forest fire which raged early this morning on the Tesla estate, nine valuable horses were burned to death at the ranch of Curtis Arthur, and much valuable property destroyed.

Firemen turned out from miles around to fight the flames.

The blaze, which is believed to have been of incendiary order, broke out at 2 a. m.

The distance from town made it impossible for the firemen and aparatus [sic] to arrive in time to save the property.

The flames swept down into the ranch and ignited the stables and big barn in which were hundreds of tons of hay, besides farming implements.

It is known that nine horses were burned in the flames, although many escaped.

An incendiary attempt was made to burn the place some time ago, but fortunately the blaze was discovered before it had gained a headway.

In the fire this morning the loss is estimated at about $6,000.
