By Associated Press to The Tribune.
Point Arena, Cal., Oct. 23. -- The steamer CASPAR went ashore a few miles below this port this afternoon, and will probably be a total wreck.
Four of the crew, who were washed overboard when she struck, were seen floating in the breakers upon pieces of wreckage and an attempt was made to rescue them, but owing to the heavy sea which was running. It was almost impossible to launch a boat.
The steamer ALCATRAZ was dispatched to the scene of the wreck by the White Lumber Company at 1:30 P.M.
MAY BE THE SAME BOAT.
San Francisco, Oct. 23. -- A telephone message to the Merchants' Exchange from Point Arena this morning announced that a schooner, bottom upward, had been sighted off Saunder's Reef, near Iverson's Landing, but that there were no signs of life upon the derelict.
It is believed that the craft is either the schooner Corinthian or the Arthut I of this port, both of which are overdue at their respective destinations, Bowen's Landing and Point Arena.
Each carried a crew of eight men.
