FOUR KILLED IN TRAIN WRECK.

TWO SERIOUSLY AND ONE FATALLY HURT AS RESULT OF OREGON EXPRESS LEAPING TRACKS AT PINOLE.

As the result of a train wreck on the Southern Pacific Railroad at 9:35 o'clock last night, one mile west of Pinole, four men were killed, three instantly, and three were injured, one fatally.
The dead:
Engineer R. K. WARD, Adeline Street, this city; died at the Southern Pacific hospital at 7:30 a.m. today.
Fireman L. W. CODY,1765 Chase street, this city.
Express Messenger J. M. CUMMINGS, Portland, Ore.
Unidentified Tramp, supposed to be riding on blind baggage; decapitated.
The injured:
J. F. HOURAHAN, extra fireman; will die.
J. J. BIRMINGHAM and W. W. RODEHAVER, express messengers; will recover.
The injured are at the Southern Pacific hospital in this city.
None of the passengers on the train were injured, outside of bruises and sprains.
The wrecked train was the second section of No. 18, known as the Oregon express, and was made up of three express and baggage cars and three day coaches. It left the Oakland mole at 8:50. The train was not more than a mile beyond Pinole, when, with a sudden crash, the engine and tender leaped from the rails and turned over on the side. The momentum carried the wreckage two hundred feet before it was stopped. The baggage cars piled up on the tender in a splintered mass, and the three day coaches jumped the track, and ran for a short distance, but did not upset.
Engineer WARD and Fireman CODY, had not time to protect themselves. WARD jammed down the throttle, but the next moment was hurled through the cab along with Fireman CODY and caught in the wreckage.
