Train Wrecked.

Diaz, Ark., July 29.-Fast train No. 5, south bound on the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern railroad, was wrecked here today by running into a displaced switch. Two employees were killed and thirteen persons sustained injuries.

Four Killed By The Cannonball.

The Wreck at Diaz Helped Swell the Iron Mountain List of Victims.

Diaz, Ark., July 29.-It is believed four were killed instead of two in the wreck here to-day of the “Cannonball,” a fast southbound train from St. Louis. In addition to the deaths of the engineer, W.N. HORTON, and the fireman, A. DOOLIN, FRANCIS MULRHEAD, a passenger, says he saw an old man and a boy killed in the wreck and burned. There were thirteen persons injured as telegraphed this afternoon.

The switch of the White River branch “Y” seems to have been broken and was only half closed when struck by the big mogul drawing No. 5. The engine chose the branch and the baggage and mail cars followed the main track, telescoping and breaking. HORTON was thrown beneath the contents of the tender. The smoker was a complete wreck. Es-Alderman FRANK FOWLER of Chicago was badly injured in the chest and his condition is thought to be critical.

St. Louis, July 29.-The southbound passenger train on the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern railway, which left here last evening for Texarkana, was wrecked today at Diaz, Ark.

The engineer and fireman were both killed. Several persons were also injured.

At the general offices here it is said that the engineer, WILLIAM HORTON, and Fireman A. DOOLIN lost their lives, and that five passengers and two mail clerks were injured. One of the passengers was seriously hurt.

Beyond notification of the wreck having occurred and the number of casualties, no particulars have been received.

A relief train has been ordered to the scene from Little Rock.

JOHN D. MCLAUGHLIN, a mail clerk, was badly injured.
