RALPH WINTER STRUCK BY LIGHTNING NEAR WEINER YESTERDAY
News was received in the city this morning by H. A. Elder of the death of Ralph Winter of near Waldenburg, due to a stroke of lightning yesterday while taking refuge in a rice field. Young Winter was a splendid young man and had recently taken a life insurance policy of $1,000 in the Mutual Life of New York written by Mr. Elder. The following press dispatch from Weiner says:
“While out in his rice farm this afternoon about 1 o’clock, Ralph Winter of near Waldenburg, Ark., and Simon Hart took refuge under a large oak tree from a shower. Lightning struck a telephone pole about 200 yards away and the telephone wires ran through the tree and from this wire the lightning ran down the tree killing Mr. Winters instantly and it is not thought that Mr. Hart can survive.
Ralph Winters was about 28 years of age. Two years ago he married Miss Frida Millahn, daughter of Charles Millahn, one of Waldenburg’s most prominent citizens. His wife is prostrated over the sad affair. They have a baby boy one year old. Interment will be at Waldenburg.”
