Collision Critically Injures Man

A 24-year-old Tucson man pinned between two automobiles south of Tucson on the Nogales Highway at 11:30 a.m. today, is in critical condition at St. Mary’s Hospital. Both of his legs may have to be amputated, officials said.

Three others were injured in the accident.

According to the Arizona Highway Patrol, Pete G. MUNIZ, 5127 S. 13th Ave., apparently was working on the rear of his car which was parked on the roadway without any lights showing.

A second vehicle, also southbound and driven by Fernando A. ROMERO, 27, of 4320 S. 3rd Ave., struck MUNIZ and his car during a heavy rain, the patrol said.

ROMERO suffered abrasions of the forehead. He was treated at St. Mary’s and released.

Two passengers in ROMERO’S car, Frank NEVAREZ, 26, of 1941W. Water St., and David MONREAL, 31, of 313 W. 44th St., received scalp lacerations. Both were taken to St. Mary’s. MONREAL was treated and released, and NEVAREZ is reported in satisfactory condition.
