Nr. Umiat, AK Helicopter Crashes On The North Slope, July 1974
HELICOPTER CRASHES, FIVE KILLED.
Uniat, Alaska (AP) -- Four California residents and an Oregon man died in the crash of a helicopter on the North Slope.
Four of the victims were members of a Texaco geological survey team.
The cause of the accident, which occurred about 50 miles southeast of here Sunday afternoon, was not immediately determined.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board, Alaska State Troopers and Federal Aviation Administration flew to the crash site yesterday.
A Texaco spokesman said the team was conducting a geophysical survey.
The victims were identified as JOHN P. HACKETT, 27, Whittier, Calif.; KATHRYN A. LAMON, 23, Santa Monica, Calif.; LEROY C. MAYNARD, 29, Salem, Ore.; STEVEN F. GRINGS, 21, Los Angeles, and pilot ALFRED B. GARELICKS, 37, Millbrae, Calif.
