6 DIE IN SAVOONGA CRASH.

Savoonga, St. Laurence Island, Alaska (AP) -- Five Gambell residents and their pilot from Nome have died in a light plane crash on their way home from a walrus festival, state troopers say.
The names of those killed Monday when their plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Savoonga were being withheld pending notification of relatives, troopers said.
The aircraft, a twin-engine Aztec owned by Foster Aviation, was ferrying the passengers back to Gambell, another town on the isolated Bering Sea island, following the weekend festival.

CRASH VICTIMS IDENTIFIED.

Savoonga, Alaska (AP) -- Three teachers at a Bureau of Indian Affairs school in Gambell, were among six persons killed in the crash of a twin-engine plane on St. Lawrence Island.
State troopers said the chartered plane crashed shortly after takeoff Monday from the Savoonga airstrip, apparently after one of its engines failed.
The victims were identified as the pilot, CHUCK FAGERSTROM, 35, Nome; MIKE CARR, 32, and his 29-year-old wife, GLORIA; MRS. GAIL BRADEN, 29; and LOIS NANINJGOOK and VIRGINIA OSAUK, ages unknown.
The five passengers were all residents of Gambell, where the CARRS and MRS. BRADEN were teachers.
