Kussiloff, AK Cannery Fire, Jul 1905
ANOTHER CANNERY BURNS.
The cannery steamer Jennie came in from Kussiloff to Valdez, bringing the news that the Alaska Packers Association's cannery at that place had been entirely destroyed by fire on the night of the 18th. The fire started in an unused room and is believed to have been of incendiary origin. Although soon discovered by the watchman all the efforts of the cannery employes[sic] proved unavailing in quenching the flames.
Eight thousand cases of salmon were also destroyed as well as all the machinery, equipment, etc. Fortunately 12,000 cases of salmon had previously been removed to the ship L. J. Morse otherwise the total season's pack would probably have been lost.
This is the second cannery to burn this year, the Northwestern Fisheries Co., having lost their cannery at Uyak a few weeks ago.
Daily Alaska Dispatch, Juneau, AK 7 Aug 1905
