Lanett, AL Cotton Mills Fire, May 1901
Fire in West Point Cotton Mills.
West Point, Ga., May 5 - (Special) - Fire was discovered in one of the large cotton storage warehouses of the Lanett cotton mills this morning. A large number of bales of cotton were afire. The volunteer fire department of the mill, composed of operatives, was ordered out and streams of water were soon playing on the flames. The fire was soon under control. About forty bales were more or less damaged, some so badly that are absolutely worthless. The loss is covered by insurance.
