SEVEN NEGROES ARE DROWNED

Destructive Sweep of the Flood at Florence, Ala.

Florence, Ala., March 29.--The past two days there has been such a downpour of rain that it has caused the most disastrous floods ever known in this country. Communication with the county towns is cut off, the creeks being so swollen that it is impossible to cross. Every bridge in the country is reported swept away except the Shoal creek bridge. The bridges were steel structures and were supposed to be above high water mark.

The waters have risen 8 feet above the highest mark ever reached here. At the pumping station, which is 3 miles above the mouth of the creek, the water is 8 feet above high water mark. Lower down the creek was said to have run 12 feet above all previous records.

The home of Pat rahan, a colored man, about 3 miles from the city, was swept away last night and seven of his family drowned.

Family of Seven Drowned.

Florence, Ala., March 29.--Two days’ rain has caused the most disastrous floods ever known in this county. Every bridge in the county is reported swept away except the Shoal creek bridge. The waters have risen eight feet above the highest mark ever reached here. The home of PAT BRAHEN, a colored man, about three miles from the city was swept away last night and SEVEN OF HIS FAMILY drowned.
